We, the American people, respect the choice of the people of Crimea to have independence, a choice which sprung fourth from a legitimate democratic referendum.
Instability in the Ukrainian Government, created after an armed coup, has forced the people of Crimea to protect themselves and their way of life. The people of Crimea have spoken loud and clear of their wanting for peace and law. We, the American people, understand the desire for freedoms and we support the people of Crimea.
