Reassign Non-profit status of religious groups from 501c3 to 501c7

Created by A.K. on September 19, 2013

Currently, the following types of organizations fit under the category of 501c3:

Religious
Educational
Charitable
Scientific
Literary
Testing for Public Safety
to Foster National or International Amateur Sports Competition
Prevention of Cruelty to Children or Animals Organizations

All but one of these has a demonstrated positive impact on society, regardless of walk of life. Religion does not fit the theme of these organizations, as religious groups are for the express purpose of gathering individuals with like ideas and sharing, expressing, and practicing those ideas. This better fits an entirely different category of non-profit, the 501c7, as this is the categorization for social clubs.
