Reassign the Utah Data Center to the Department of Justice for storage of police footage from body-cameras.

Created by P.L. on November 27, 2014

The purpose of this petition is to create legislation that would transfer the Utah Data Center from the NSA to the Department of Justice for video collection, storage, and retrieval from high-resolution body-mounted video cameras worn by on-duty law enforcement officers (LEO) across the nation.

IT network support and data storage remains one of the largest technical barriers to widespread use of such cameras, and is often cited by police departments as too costly.

This petition supports petition 8S1gbMZQ by creating a network and archive for the collection, storage and retrieval of all footage from LEO body-mounted cameras at zero additional costs while simultaneously ending the unproductive and unconstitutional surveillance of private citizens by the federal government.
