reauthorize ESEA without the emphasis on standardized testing as punitive action against schools and teachers.

Created by S.P. on October 15, 2011

The so called "No Child Left Behind" Act has created a "teach to the test" environment in public schools today. The countries that are supposedly beating the US in international exams do not multiple choice test as we do here. The use of standardized testing with multiple choice encourages students not to be creative and learn to discover, but instead eliminate incorrect answers in hopes of finding the one correct one. The idea that the correct answer is always on the page, just find it, is not the way to educate the necessary creative thinkers of the future. With the punitive action attached to these tests, schools must teach to the test and train students to select the correct answer. This is not the proper way to educate and it must be stopped to improve public education in the US.
