Recently all sporting events in Death Valley National Park. Events bring in over 1 million dollars to the local economy.

Created by R.F. on February 12, 2014

Recently all athletic events in Death Valley National Park have been banned. The events such as the Badwater 135 ultramarathon bring in over 1 million dollars to the local economy.

The company which hosts Badwater and the Furnace Creek 508 received no notice and little information regarding claiming that they will decided pending an evaluation of the safety of those events, which have excellent safety records.

Many endurance athletes train for years to prepare for events like this and to ban them with little communication to the event sponsor could destroy the possibility of future events being planned.

We are asking that the ban be reconsidered citing the lack of any specific incident that would demonstrate harm to the competitors or the local environment.
