Since the Nixon era marijuana has been classified as a schedule 1 substance. We've been told that it is a highly addictive drug having no medicinal value whatsoever. Recent scientific studies have shown that neither of those beliefs are true. Even CNN's chief medical correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta has come out and stated as much, even apologizing for not researching it further before stating he was against medical marijuana years ago. The Obama administration should reclassify marijuana so that more research can be done here in the United States.
Reclassifying marijuana is something that can be done by the executive branch and does not need congressional approval.
