Currently spouses and minor children of Legal Permanent Residents have to wait from 4 years (in many cases outside the US) in order to join their LPR relative(s) in the US due to the long backlog in immigrant visa number availability in this preference category.
We believe that to preserve family unity, spouses and minor children of LPR's should be classified as immediate relatives in the Immigration and Nationality Act which would enable them to join their families immediately, which at the moment is only reserved for foreign national relatives of US citizens.
The current system results in spouses and minor children of LPR's spending years and years split apart from their families. This is un-American, and upsetting and damaging to the family unit.
