According to the Official DEA website; "Schedule I drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse. Schedule I drugs are the most dangerous drugs of all the drug schedules with potentially severe psychological or physical dependence."
By definition, tobacco is a schedule I drug. It has no medical use, and is highly addictive. It causes millions of deaths each year to users and through secondhand smoke. Tobacco is one of the few products, available legally, which is guaranteed to kill if used long enough. Furthermore, litter created from cigarette butts, and other tobacco products cause unknown damage to the environment.
For the reasons listed: We petition that tobacco be reclassified as a Schedule I drug.
