Recognise the Crimean "annexation" for what it was: a conscious action on the part of people of Crimea in joining the RF

Created on April 12, 2016

The Autonomous Republic of Crimea, in 2014, declared its independence from Ukraine by an overwhelming majority in a referendum, along with the City of Sevastopol. Both bodies united in the Republic of Crimea, which then voted to join the Russian Federation. All of this was done through democratic procedure, and recent polls taken on the Crimean peninsula openly show that the people there are satisfied under Russia, and prefer it over Ukraine. Thus, there has been no "annexation", and there was no breach of international law. As a certain Argentine President stated, the West has a double standard. No outrage was shown with Texas' rebellion as there was with Donetsk and Lugansk's, which are doing what Texas did in the 1830s. The writer does NOT support Putin.
