Americans of all political persuasions are shocked and saddened both at the disclosure that the intelligence community has acquired the capability to invade the privacy of innocent Americans, and also that this administration has lied to Congress and the people that they have the ability to do so. If we turn our back on the individual freedoms that are the essence of this nation, bin Laden and those who hate us will have succeeded.
