Recognize the actions of Charles Poland who died protecting the children of AL with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

We created this petition to honor Charles Albert Poland, who when faced with a gunman trying to kidnap 22 students on the bus for which Poland was the driver, refused to hand over the students and physically stopped the gunman, being killed in the process. Due to his selflessness, no children were killed. Poland's actions not only saved numerous lives, they also reinforce the goodness of humanity in a time when it is too easy to forget. His commitment to and love for those children resulted in him making the sacrifice of his own life to protect them. Too often we hear about the bad in society. Charles Poland personifies the good.His actions should be recognized and above all, he as a man should be celebrated for what he did. Truly, nobody can argue he is most deserving of this honor.
