The President's Service Volunteer Award (PVSA) was established to honor the work of any who selflessly contributed to his or her community; however, not all those who do participate in civic life and serve are not recognized equally. Refusing to do so defies the very foundation America was built on: that all men are created equal, no matter their nationality. The award must be a measure of how an individual spends his time and energy for something other than himself, an encouragement to continue such works and inspire others to do the same. The success of the PVSA depends on it giving equal opportunity to all.
