The first amendment of The Constitution of the United States clearly states that church and state are to remain separate. But recently, US elected officials have brought religion into one of the most important moments of their political careers, when they take their oath. By doing this, they immediately devalue their office, and betray the values of this government. President's in the past, such as John Quincy Adams, did not swear in on a Bible. Also, it is completely unacceptable to allow a religious leader to conduct the ceremony, it simply displays the unacceptable relationship between church and state. So, President Obama, when swearing in, please do not use a bible, do not allow a religious leader to conduct the ceremony, and do not end your honorable oath with, "So help me god".
