December 6, 1865, is perhaps the most significant date in African-American history, marking the ratification of the 13th Amendment, which legally abolished slavery in the United States. In celebration of the 150th anniversary, this year is an ideal opportunity for our government to formally honor this significant date in history by officially recognizing December 6 as Abolition Day.
