Ehler Danlos Syndrome is an often debilitating genetic disorder caused by defects in collagen. This affects the body's connective tissue throughout the vasculature, joints, and skin. Depending on the type of EDS that is inherited, symptoms may vary from joint laxity and hyper mobility to postural orthostatic tachycardia and aortic dissection. Skin may be fragile, prone to bruising, and wound healing is poor. Joints may be predisposed to early onset arthritis, painful dislocations and subluxations, and many sufferers require multiple surgical interventions. Coexisting diseases prevalent in EDS patients include Dysautonomia, celiac disease, autoimmune disorders such as Raynaud's, osteopenia, and mast cell disorder.
