Recognize emotional support dogs as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Created by K.B. on June 04, 2015

There is evidence that animals can be beneficial for individuals suffering from mental and emotional health issues; in fact, many professionals highly recommend emotional support animals as a form of therapy for these men and women. Unfortunately, emotional support animals are not recognized as service animals under the Americans with Disabilities act leaving a large number of disabled Americans without public access to a valuable resource that helps them function day to day. Making allowances for animals who help with physical disabilities and not doing the same for animals who help with mental ones is discriminatory. I ask that you amend the Americans with Disabilities Act to include emotional support animals and grant their owners with the same protections granted to everyone else.
