Surgical technologists are individuals that provide care to a patient in the surgical suite, operating room, endoscopy suite, or sterile processing department. They have the task of preparing the surgical instrumentation and supplies, and the sterile field for surgery. Utilizing critical thinking and judgement they pass needed instrumentation to the surgeon, ensure that the files remaines sterile, antipathetic surgical needs by asking for additional equipment when needed, and may act as a first assistant for the surgeon, including retraction, dissection, and coagulation.
