Recognize the harm the HUAC hearings inflicted on the American people that were called before them, and their families.

Created by S.D. on February 26, 2013

The House on Un-American Activities Committees (HUAC) were harmful to many men, women, and their families. Using the power of the Congress, the members of these committiees used questionable, and bullying tactics to compel witnesses to testify. Whether the witness testified or not, just appering before the committee brought a stigma to them that carried over to their employment, schooling, and personal relationships. Many lives were negatively impacted, and witnesses suffered though a variety of repercussions such as losses of job, family, friends, reputation, income, and in some cases freedom. There needs to be a recognition of the harm theses committies inflicted, and possible apologies issued for those falsely accused and persecuted.
