This petition is a follow up of the Kū'ē petitions that our ancestors signed on September 11, 1897.
The Kū'ē Petitions, also known as the Anti-Annexation Petitions were a collection of over 38,000 signatures (90%of Hawaiian Nationals) who were opposed to the Annexation of Hawaiʻi to the United States of America. The signatures were collected island by island by three hui: the Hui Aloha Aina for Women, the Hui Aloha Aina for Men, and the Hui Kalaiaina. These three groups went island to island, holding mass town meetings about annexation and obtaining signatures from those who opposed annexation.
The objective of this petition is;
- Independence for Hawai`i by ending the prolonged and Illegal U.S. occupation of the Hawaiian Kingdom. Self determination for the people, BY THE PEOPLE.
