recognize the importance of social studies curricula in the American educational system.

As a social studies teacher it is disheartening that a tremendous amount of emphasis is placed on science, math and reading, while social studies classes are overlooked and in many cases underfunded. I do not dispute the importance of math, science and reading; however,social studies provides the students with a foundation to become learned global citizens.
