The Republic of Somaliland is one of the most stable areas of Africa and is following the example of the original 13 colonies by declaring its right to self-determination. By recognizing the independence of the Somaliland region, the United States would advance its own interests in Africa by supporting the will of the people. The recognition of the Somaliland region will also enable the United States to create potential trade opportunities within the region and allow humanitarian aid to be better directed to the people without possible interference by corrupt regional government officials.
