The International Shabbos Project is a project run by the Chief Rabbi of South Africa which encourages Jews to keep the Sabbath, by choosing a specific one (Friday night and Saturday) when there is a large campaign to help Jews who have never kept Shabbos before to keep Shabbos that one time.
This October 24th and 25th will be the date this year for the project, which is now international. It was tested in South Africa last year, and thousands of people kept the customs of Shabbos for the first time, and reported wonderful experiences, feeling warmth and spirituality from the holiday.
About half of the South African Jewish community kept the Shabbos, and we can make that half the world. Making it a national holiday will allow many who normally work then to take off and celebrate Shabbos.
