March 8th in recognized as International Women's Day. It has been in observance around the world since the early 1900s. It is a general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women and a celebration for women's economic, political and social achievements throughout history and throughout the world. The United States is often looked to as an example of social and societal achievements and recognizing this holiday makes a profound statement about the important contributions of women in countries the world over and the necessity to be vigilant in the struggle for gender equality.
