In 1927, Bath Elementary School was bombed. In 1966, the University of Texas was struck by a gunman. In 1999, Columbine High School was attacked by two gunmen and was wired with bombs that, luckily, did not detonate. In 2007, there was a shooting massacre at Virginia Tech.
What connects these events is not the guns or the bombs, but the broken and frayed minds of those who perpetrated them. Let us not call out for gun control, as broken people can kill with bombs. Instead, we must improve access to mental health resources and work the remove the stigma around it.
