Migraine is a chronic neurological disorder, a painful and debilitating disease. It ranks in the top 20 of the world's most disabling medical illnesses. The pain is equivalent to amputating a leg or an arm, but it is not known to the public.
In the USA, over 16% of the population suffers from migraine: +/- 10% of school-age children, 25% of women and 8% of men. This translates to about 36 million people in the United States alone! A 2004 article suggested that there are almost 20 million migraine attacks happening every day! More than 90% of sufferers are unable to work or function normally during their migraine attacks. American employers lose more than $13 billion each year as a result of 113 million lost work days.
25% of U.S. homes includes someone with migraine.
