Football has surpassed baseball in the United States as our national pasttime; it is clearly the most popular sport in America. This opinion is supported by the fact that the Super Bowl is the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most watched television broadcast in U.S. history. Approximately one-third to one-half of American households have been tuning in to the Super Bowl for over 30 years.
With such a large and obvious interest on an annual sporting event, Super Bowl Sunday has become an informal holiday in America. We're asking the Obama administration to make this a formal national holiday, observed on the Monday after the Super Bowl.
