Why should government recognize the institution of marriage at all? This is a nation of free individuals who can enter into a contract with anyone they see fit, and marriage is nothing more than a religious contract. Any restriction or discriminatory policy is a violation of their first amendment rights. Remove all references to marriage from federal policy and treat everyone identical under the law.
