The Native American people would like a Holiday of their own, the way the blacks have MLK and the Irish have St. Patrick. We would like a National Sacajawea (Sacagawea) Day, Federally recognized, with the same perks that other cultural icons have received (vacation time for a day off, a place on the calendar, press hubbub.) Sacajawea is seen as our first ambassador with the Whites and she holds a much higher status than any warrior. She was a peacemaker. She is more suitable than Crazy Horse for a National Holiday. For these reasons, we feel that she is eligible for inclusion as much as Christopher Columbus is.
