We disagree with the proposal the National Rifle Association made following the Newtown tragedy. While it is worthwhile to support the Second Amendment and personal liberties for all citizens, it is harmful to champion these rights without regard for the greater good of the entire community. Guns are not the answer to every problem and may be used to perpetuate the culture of violence. Cultivating a mini arms race on an individual level will not ensure greater safety at home, at school, in the workplace, or in our communities.
