One year ago Barack Obama called for an independent state of Palestine. He is now going back on his words and telling the world that the US will veto any effort within the UN to grant Palestinians statehood.
The vast majority of the international community including China, India, Russia, and many more countries support the recognition of Palestine within the UN. A recent poll showed 70% of Israelis support the measure as well.
The US should not undermine what is right and what is the international consensus. It should recognize Palestinian statehood.
