Paternity leave, leave from work for the father of a newborn, should be granted legal status because of the gender discrimination it fosters. Fathers are equally emotionally attached to a child as the mother. Many other nations have already accepted this notion and there have been no noticeable economic or social consequences from such law. Currently, the Family and Medical Leave Act covers some of these issues for the Fathers, but there are some areas where a father is not guaranteed leave. For example, if he is one of the top 10% paid employees of a company, then he may be denied leave. Such areas need to be addressed.
