Recognize the refugee status of the Iraqi Christians at Erbil, and let them immigrate to the United States

Created by J.F. on December 20, 2015

The plight of the Iraqi Christians at Erbil was highly publicized by the December 18, 2015 edition of the news program 20/20. About 150 of these Iraqis were allowed into Slovakia last week, but that leaves about 400 in Erbil still awaiting clearance. The danger is that now their cause is famous, they could easily become a target for IS or other opportunistic terror organization looking to grab the headlines.

We understand that such individuals are not usually regarded as "refugees," but as "internally displaced persons." Regardless of labels, the human need here is the same - desperate.

Based on humanitarian concerns, please recognize the refugee status of this one group of Iraqi Christians and immediately allow them into the U.S. Later they may opt to go to Slovakia, or to stay here.
