Thousands of children and families are fleeing unspeakable horror and violence in their home countries.
The is a refugee crisis. Not a security issue, not an immigration issue, not a political issue, not even a "humanitarian issue." The drug cartel and gang violence these children are trying to escape is as deadly and traumatic as any civil war.
Sadly, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest has stated that the administration believes that most of these children will not qualify for immigrant relief, and has called for expedited deportation hearings (http://wh.gov/lFwJT).
The UN is urging the US to treat these migrants as refugees (http://n.pr/1ogtgeI), and so are we. It may not be politic, but it is the right thing to do.
It's time for a truly compassionate response to this crisis.
