WE the people of the Great State of Arkansas, in accordance with the principles and right to self government established in the Declaration of Independence, and in finding the will and motives of the Federal Government of these United States contrary to both the wishes, best interest, and rights of the people of the State of Arkansas, hereby petition that the State of Arkansas be recognized as having the right to peacefully withdraw from the Union in order to establish a sovereign nation for the security of the rights and liberties possessed and desired by the people of Arkansas, and for the solemn and noble motive of defending and protecting the rights and liberties we have inherited, and to which we as Arkansans are duty bound to preserve and transmit unblemished to future generations.
