Working with America and the allies against ISIS (Daesh) is a group of people called the Kurds. They are their OWN indigenous people and Iraq, Turkey, Syria, and Iran all have control over their territory.
They want an independent Kurdistan, this nation would be divided to 3 regions. In Northern Syria one region called Rojava declared independence in 2013. Ever sense than they have been fighting ISIS as well as for their freedom. Rojava has 4.6 million people and is function as a Libertarian-Socialist state meaning they have little to no government and it lies all in the hands of the people.
I believe America recognizing Rojava as independent could be a major steeping stone to peace in the region as it will build yet another nation fighting ISIS and create more of an infrastructure.
