Recognize that the second amendment has nothing to do with sporting firearms and everything to do with defense

I call on the Obama administration to recognize that the intent of our founding fathers' adoption of the second amendment was not to guarantee our ability to utilize firearms for sporting purposes, but to guarantee our ability to defend ourselves against all enemies, foreign and domestic. The second amendments intent was for the everyday citizen to be able to meet force with equal force. How can we, as citizens, do that if the only people allowed to have "assault weapons" and "high capacity magazines" are the police and the military. An "assault weapons ban" will not likely deter criminals from obtaining them at will, thus the American populace must continue to be allowed to exercise their god given (not government given) right to effectively meet force with equal force.
