recognize the second amendment right as the right to bear arms WHILE IN A MILITIA.

The second amendment to the constitution is commonly misinterpreted among Americans. Amidst the recently renewed battle over gun rights, many have quoted "the right to bear arms" to support their argument that the constitution protects their right to own firearms. This, however, does just the opposite. The second amendment clearly states that Americans have the right to bear arms while in a militia. This amendment does not protect the right of the common man who is not a member of the federal or state defense services to own firearms. We petition for stricter gun laws on the basis that the constitution does not in fact protect the right of the common man to own a firearm.
