As Somaliland celebrates its 22 years of Independence from the rest of Somalia, we urge the Obama Administration to recognize Somaliland. It's time to let the world know that (Where there is public awareness, recognition lies indeed). Today, the youngest Somalilanders are fully aware of their demand for independence as they participate in rallies alongside their elders to call for an international recognition. The Republic of Somaliland bordering on the former British colony has been denied recognition and aid. Poor and isolated, it is making an effort to achieve a peaceful blend of democracy and cultural tradition which is rarely found in the African countries that do receive international aid. It is a unique experiment and an example to the rest of the continent.
