The Spratly Island is located west of the island of Palawan on the country of the Philippines has been a center of conflict since Japan surrendered to the Americans after WWII. Recently, it has created some serious conflicts between China and the Philippines. Philippines, being the closest nation to the group of island, is the most reasonable choice of rule and not only because Philippines is close to it, it will benefits the United States in 3 ways.
1.) It has oil on the region and if other nations other than China drill it, the gas prices will drop at home.
2.) The sea route to the traditional oil fields will be secured
3.) The region that doesn't have oil will be protected from fishermen.
