The United Nations already recognizes the State of Palestine as a non-member observer state. The only reason why Palestine is not a full member of the UN is because the United States used its power on the Security Council to veto their membership.
Since the United States is the only reason why Palestine is not a member of the United Nations, it seems only fair that the US Government should at the very least establish formal diplomatic relations with Palestine.
