Since the United Kingdom granted independence to Mandatory Palestine with the creation of the States of Israel and Palestine, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in 1948, there have been countless arguments over the validity and sovereignty of the Palestinian state. For the 66 years of their existence, Israel and Palestine have had little in common with each other, other than the fact that they happen to share borders with each other. Different languages. Different cultures. Different people. Our hopes are that the recognition of Palestine as a legitimate nation will bring an end to the violence that plagues their region. This is why we ask the Obama administration, on behalf of the American people, to officially recognize the State of Palestine as a sovereign and independent nation.
