recognize that Taiwan has never been a part of China after world war II. Taiwan is an independent and democratic country

I understand that USA has "One China Policy" while China here stands for People's Republic of China. The current government in Taiwan keeps using "Republic of China" so it makes difference between these two countries in reality. Actually, people in Taiwan have never been governed by People's Republic of China after World War II. To my understanding, the majority of People in Taiwan would like to change their name from "Republic of China" to "Taiwan" to avoid the confusion with the only one China. As a leader of the world, the United State of America should recognize Taiwan is in fact an independent and democratic country.
