America has had a bad habit of installing and supporting dictatorships in South America, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. But now, we have an opportunity to support on of the most successful democracies in the world. The people in Taiwan have prospered despite being in the shadow of Communist China. They have cultivated one of the most successful economies in the world today. But their freedom is under fire, and China is prepared to take over their government. China has developed an operation that would take out the Taiwanese government and install their own in under a week. If we recognize Taiwan, we are effectively defending them from Chinese aggression. We would be guaranteeing the people of Taiwan the same freedoms and values that we have fought for since 1776.
