Taiwan has a permanent population, a common language, a defined and distinct territory, a stable government, and a capacity to enter into relations with other states. In short, Taiwan meets the very definition of a sovereign state.
The United States, due to the "One China Policy," does not recognize Taiwan as a country.
It is time (long past due) to recognize reality and cast aside outdated and ineffective policy. It is time to respect the will of the people of Taiwan and recognize Taiwan as what it is--a sovereign state.
