The surgeon general has documented conclusively that cigarettes kill. Tobacco remains the single largest preventable cause of death in the United States.
While the FDA carefully screens new pharmaceuticals for unintended side effects, and requires all advertising of such items also include all know side effects, this same standard has not been applied to cigarettes.
This petition recognizes that, if cigarettes were introduced as a new product today, the federal government would prohibit its sale. We ask that we as a people recognize this fact and ban cigarettes and other smoking tobaccos.
