The term "faggot" has outgrown both its connotation and denotation in common usage within the English vernacular. Those, including advocates of the homosexual community, who use the word in a manner similar to the term "jerk" or with a meaning such as "one who acts in a pretentious manner" are persecuted by the community that continues to insist on the word's usage as being discriminatory. The use of the word has changed, as its definition has, over time, and should continue to do so accordingly, with the acknowledgment of the state.
