In 2010, FIFA awarded the 2022 World Cup to the country of Qatar. Since then, an estimated 400 migrant workers have died while working on construction projects directly related to the World Cup. Many others are forced to work in horrid conditions and are oftentimes not paid for months. The International Trade Union Confederation estimates that upwards of 4000 workers could be killed by the start of the tournament.
The Administration should urge the US Soccer Foundation to boycott the 2022 World Cup unless FIFA agrees to revoke the hosting rights from Qatar and reopen the bidding process for hosting rights. The link below details the deaths and forced working conditions currently taking place.
