Reconcile the contradiction: Gov't owns patent US6630507 but marijuana is classified a Schedule 1 narcotic. Reevaluate.

Created by J.H. on May 15, 2013

Presently marijuana is classified as a Schedule 1 substance. One of the requirements to be placed on this list are that the substance has no currently accepted medicinal benefit or use.

However, the Department of Health and Human Services was assigned patent US6630507 which clearly delineates the use of cannabinoids as neuroprotectants and antioxidants. The apparent contradiction between these two positions held simultaneously by the government must be reconciled. Furthermore, given the slew of information now arriving into the public domain in both experimental and testimonial form, it is no surprise that this patent exists. We respectfully submit that the government must reconcile this difference - away from a policy that incarcerates citizens for possession of medicine. Towards health.
