Over the course of the Yemeni Civil War, the Saudi Arabian government has bombed much of Yemen to counter the power of the Houthi rebels, an Iranian-backed, Shi'ite militia group. However, Saudi Arabia has wound up bombing civilians in Yemen as opposed to just specific, targeted strikes against the Houthis. Additionally, the Saudis have taken no concrete action in the fight against ISIS, and do not appear likely to do so in the near future.
The growing prominence of both domestically produced as well as Canadian, Mexican and Brazilian petroleum in US markets means we are not nearly as reliant on OPEC as we used to be, and thus the benefits our alliance with Saudi Arabia have become outdated and are no longer relevant. As such, we should reconsider our alliance with the Saudis.
