We urge the Obama administration to think critically and reconsider Obama's self-proclaimed intent on reinstating an assault weapons ban for the following reasons:
1. As interpreted by the Supreme court, the right to bear arms is an individual right. Having a pistol grip or a large magazine does not change the functionality or the purpose of the weapon.
2. The tool is being blamed for the intentions of the user. Instead, the administration should focus on education to change the user's violent tendencies and those who need emotional help.
Most criminals do not purchase weapons through the channels that a ban would restrict. This would make such restrictions ineffective and unethically burdensome for the law abiding citizen. Therefore we strongly urge the administration to reconsider.
